I HAVE A QUESTION FOR THE PULLING BOARD.

IN ANYONE'S OPINION, HOW MUCH HP WILL IT TAKE TO PULL A 3.5(APROX) MPH FIRST GEAR IN 7000LB CLASS.
TRACTOR WOULD BE A FARMALL (M), WITH 15.5-38'S NON-CUT TIRES. MAXIMIUM RPM 1750.
THIS IS A BASIC FIRST GEAR PULL. THE 3.5MPH MIGHT THROW SOME, BUT THINKING ABOUT SPEEDING UP FIRST GEAR ! SECOND GEAR IN NOT AN OPTION !

THANK'S FOR YUOR OPINION'S

i'm running a verified 62hp. that wasn't enought, can't go to 16.9-38's., (rules) were running a very short chain, boat load's fast, not so much this season , but last, the track's were motor cruncher's. would 335 cubes get me there! i'm thinking i need close to 80hp !

80 would probably get you there.

It would depend on the type of track and sled you pull. Where I pull, it would take well over 100 horsepower for an M to pull at 3.5mph in the 7000 lb. class. Note that that is if the tractor actually ran 3.5mph. If it just ran a stock speed (probably around 2.5) it wouldn't take that much.

i understand the 2.5, factoring in the 3.5 to allow for slippage on the track and to have some throttle to play with !

If the rules prohibit second gear I'd set the RPMS, stick it low gear and pull. 50-60 HP should be plenty for about any track with 15.5 tires. Rather than speed up low gear, why not try a set of 16.9 tires. They will speed your tractor up some but they'll take more HP to spin also.

a M should do well in this class, add wheel weights to get up to that weight. we pull in 1st gear and it is always exciting as fast tractors.
