Thanks to all who helped me. I pulled that truck around the block and did get it to prime up. It did start, but runs like crap. I think the piston inthe pump is worn out. It is way too rich. Idles good, that"s bout it, smokes like freight train. I got a new pump, and replacing it. Thanks again, any tricks on timing it? ChadS

Check fuel tank for holes in top same thing happened to my 89. Repaired pump, 4mo later same thing again found holes top of front tank.

Dad had just put a new flat bed on the truck, and had done some sandblasting around the tank, when we prepped the frame for paint. tank was in good shape, replaced the vents, and new lines to the fuel pump. Figured since it was apart that far, mite as well,,,,, it went down less than a week after it was all said and done, If I had to guess, I would say some blasting material, found its way through the system, and in to the injector pump. I haven't torn the pump apart to see for sure,, but the advance mechanism in the pump was stuck.

The timing marks are at 12 oclock. According to the resident expert TREE TOPPER advancing the pump about the thickness of a nickle will give it just a little more power. May have a slight fuel knock, but these engines need all the soup they can get.

The 'TOPPER turned the screw on my 6.9 as well. It may not run like a Powerstoke or Cummins, but I can get a pack of bicycle riders to move over, lol.

Advance mechanism,,, I noticed on our IH 856, that has a roosa master pump, it has just an adjustment bolt in there,, and no linkage, or would not appear to move, On the 7.3 pump, it has an adjustment screw that looks like to push the plunger in to move the advance. Does that adjustment, just take up the slack to set it up, or is there more to it??? ChadS

New pump, WOW! New truck! Did not know it supposed to run like that. One question, there is a piston assembly at the bottom of the pump, it has linkage going to it actuated by the throttle linkage, what does that do? The old pump this was stuck. ChadS

The plunger at the bottom of the pump that is operated by the lever at the side of the pump RETARDS the injection timing at high throttle lever settings.

High throttle setting = pumping pistons fully filled, so injection starts earlier than at low throttle settings. Lever operated "retard" counteracts this, to keep start of injection at a safe degree of advance.
