A light weight automotive rad in place of the factory unit with thoseheavy tanks will save several pounds. As previously mentioned the entire air intake system from the air intake to carb is all cast & mighty heavy. sometimes see a K&N filter stuck right on the carb.

I think that switching to a flatback would save approx 100-150 lb. I can lift & mount the power-trol / rockshaft on my "B" alone, albeit with some discomfort. If you find a flatback, you may think about pinching off the PTO shaft just inside the cover, saves around 15 lb. If you're only pulling, you may wish to remove the generator and switch the air cleaner to a dry-type K&N, saving another 35-40 lb.

I switched my 49 b to a flat back and lost right around 200lbs. there arent any battery boxes that are made for under the seat but I built an alluminum box for my front weight bracket and ran the cables underneith and behind the frame. they do make alluminum flat backs but i havent found one with a pto for a b. the pto is another thing on those because the pto's in ours are offset to the left inside where the earlier flat back tractors are centered. I dont pull very many places with my b where i would have to get put on the dyno so i left mine hanging in there for niow but my uncle is a machinist and we are making a piece to offset it in the flatback. it makes a big difference performance wise and i would definitely recomend it

Thanks for the input, I am not really woried about the pto but the rules here are it has to be a john deere peice. I looked up in the john deere pasts book and they do list a flat back with a place to mount a battery box on top but it seams like they do not exsist. Has anyone seen one or have one they would like to part with?
