chad i callad your shop the other day i had a ? i think my tractor is a 52 super m ? it was made in illinoise the ser# is sm f2306j the block # is 356980r1 then there is a c264# what is that and also i cant find any # on the head thanks

yep it s a 52, early serial number. the 264# is the cubic inch for the block casting. 4 inch boreX 5-1/4 stroke. the casting number on the head is under the valve cover. Since it a super M, it should have the good cyl head and cam. I would guess that it has flat top pistons in it if it is original, only way to tell is run a compression test, or look in through the spark plug holes to see if there is a dome on the top of the piston. 100-135 psi is relitivly stock, 135psi and up is better for a compression reading. If it is below 135, looking at about 55-60 hp at 540 with the carb tuned up, Should have a great torque curve, (below 540 pto rpm) due to the cyl head, and the cam. the "J" in the serial number code means it had a rockford clutch.
