What are the differences in HP and torque between the Farmall 400 and 450? I know where two of them are for sale and I would like to turn one of them into a puller preferably a super antique puller if possible? I've spent most of my time around John Deere's so I'm not too up-to-date on Farmalls. Thanks for the help.

The 400 had 264 CI engine. The Nebraska test rated the PTO HP at 50.78, and Drawbar at 45.34. Note it did it's pull for the drawbar test on 13 x 38's

The 450 has a 281 CI engine. It's PTO HP was 55.28 and Drwabar 51.25 in the Nebraska Tests. For the Drawbar test it was on 15.5 x 38's.

The 450 is basically the successor to the 400. It came with the C281 engine as opposed to the 400's C264. It was supposedly the first row crop farmall with 50 drawbar horsepower. The 400's horsepower would have been in the mid 40s. Either tractor is a fine choice for antique pulling.

CHECK BOTH ENGINES, I'VE SEEN 450'S WITH THE 264 BLOCK IN THEM ! I NEVER HAVE SEEN A SUPER-M THRU 450 THAT DIDN'T HAVE A 4-1/8 BORE INSTALLED IN IT'S LIFE AT ONE TIME OR ANOTHER !
CHECK THE HEAD ON BOTH TRACTOR'S. ON THE BACK OF THE HEAD THERE SHOULD NOT BE A TUBE RUNNING TO THE AIR CLEANER, THE VALVE COVER SHOULD HAVE A VENT TUBE OUT THE TOP !! 400-450 GAS HEADS ARE AN EXPENSIVE ITEM !
