I recently purchased a 301 for my 460,to rebuild this winter for next years pulling season. Was wondering how to get performance parts & what to use such as cam, pistons, lp, truck, or just stock head, any help would be great thanks Tim,

Call Jeff At Murphys Motor Service and see if he has a Johnson lp intake, get a carb off of a JD 7700 gas combine get a MSD Ign. box, work the heads over, take the governor off and wind the Pi$$ out of it. Should turn over 4000 and be fairly competetive in the lighter classes. Also use some good valve springs with good retainers. Bullett racing cams in Horn Lake Ms. can do you a cam that will work nicely. I had a lot of fun with one like that and it is still running last count I had of it.

Tim,I wouldn't waist money on a bunch of parts. Go for cubic inches 370-400,and a big carb. The rest of the parts you have will work fine including the stock cam. I know, I've been there. Got one of the BADDEST 560's around.

Tim.A block bored out to 4 1/8" with a stock crank works out to 352 ci. The block has to be sleeved {Darton #RS 125 } best and inexpensive. Of course block must be filled with "hard block" and plumb head for cooling. Check piston book for a 4.125 piston with a 2.06 compression height, resize the pin hole and assemble. Fit a larger carb.,and go blow those 4020's into the weeds.
If you want to spend more money stroke the crank to 5" and come up with 401 ci. You can go bigger but it get's a lot more complicated.
