We are thinking about setting up one of our F-20's for antique/unstyled/1939 and older tractor pulling. Could anyone on this site please tell me what needs to be done to one of these old girls to make them strong competitive pullers and what would be the prime weight classes for one to pull in and the best size and type of tires to use? I have been told that if one "builds too hot of a fire" on the top side of the engine that the cranks won't take it and will break since they have no center support. If true, what can be done to prevent this? Any advice from you fellas on this site would be very appreciated. Thank you.

I should have added that I am located in Iowa. I have heard that Iowa antique tractor puller association rules call for an original appearance on the exterior of the tractor, but alterations can be done on the "interior." Perhaps someone can verify and/or clarify my understanding as regards the rules, and can also tell me what that means regarding the alterations that can be made and what can be done specifically with tire size/wheels as well.

steve a, a friend of mine has a F 20 he's pulled for several years. He bored the block to accept Case 830 sleeves and used 830 diesel pistons cut down with about a 1/4" step above deck height that fits into the chamber of the head. He has big valves and relocated the spark plug holes. Bigger carb and bored intake. This year he made an adapter to add a distributer that really helped. He runs 14.9 38s in 4300, 4600, and 5000 pound classes. DCPULLER

If Im not mistaken there are a few people out there that can put a set of center mains in an F20 block. There are some F20s & some F30s out there now that are running stroker cranks that do not have any center mains. I think it just depends on how big you wanna go.
