I have recently come across a completely rebuilt 671 Detroit (w/turbo) and want to put it in a tractor to pull open and hot farm classes. Anyone know of someone using one of these motors and do you have any suggestions?

Thanks, Ryan

There is a guy here in Oregon that has a non-turboed 6-71 in a Massey Harris 55. Pulls Farm Modified classes against mostly small block Chevies, and a BB Ford. Doesn't win and doesn't come in last. I like watchin' it blow smoke.

Sould be good for 300HP at 2300 rpm with N80 injectors. That's a pretty much stock factory setup. With heavier valve springs, water injection, more turbo and bigger injectors there is lots more to be had. Detroits used in factory tractors were 6-71 in Deere 8010/820's, 2-53 in the Deere 435/440, 3-71 and 4-53 in some Olivers and in a Massey but I can't recall which models. Somebody is going to notice sooner or latter that that 6-71 isn't a factory engine in your tractor.

It was the Massey 98 which was an Oliver with Massey sheet metal. The Massey 97 was a Minne-Mo with different sheet metal.

I have an Oliver 1900 and it has a 453 in it, but they are right. It would be a shame to put alot of time and money in the tractor and going to pulls where they would not let you pull. They do put on a good show though. Nothin' runs like a detroit! As long as you keep oil in it.

david H,I also pull a 1900 oliver,I have a 88 front (narrow),under it and a lot of weight reduction(7200 hundred pounds) I have done extensive work on the engine and had a very good pulling year.I am from new york and pull in several states around me.where are you located? I just love the old detroit motors and how much you can get out of them before meltdown.....

HD turbo pistons with turbo compression ratio, HD air box covers, oil cooler if not already equiped. Some engines bypass the blower once the turbo is cranked up and making boost. Some low powered Detroits don't have the pistons cooled via oil sprays from the rod small end.

We have the motor rebuilt with the N pistons. Can't we just put the turbo on with them? Is the cam different? We have the 4 valve head.
