Hi guys. I live in Wisconsin. Have no fear, I won't be pulling with any of you people that pull in Ohio or wherever you pull. We've got a couple small tractor pulls here and I would like it if you pros could share some of your secrets. We're limited to 18" drawbar height max. These pulls are stock, antique pulls. What works best? chloride in tires, weights bolted on wheels, weight in the front, shorter drawbar, etc. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Jeff

Rooster, Like Burns said most guys like suitcase weights because they are easy to move around. If you are only going to pull in one weight class you could get away with weighting the tractor with fluid, but I would recomend that you have at least 5-600 lbs of "hang-on" weight so you can move it around as needed. There is no universal "ideal" drawbar legnth. The basics are as follows. As long as you can keep the frontend on the ground, a longer drawbar will provide more weight to the rear tires under load, if your front end is heading skyward at 100' and you have all the weight you can get on the front, then your drawbar is too long.

Well rooster the best advice comes from the (good and bad)experience you will get from hooking to the sled. Most pullers like the flexibility that suitcase weights offer when balancing their tractors. I got rid of our wheel weights because of the weight. Most of the clubs in our area limit the length of the drawbar to 18" from the center of the rear axles. A short drawbar and a short/low chain on the sled will allow a lot of weight to be placed on the rear wheels. You'll need a lot of weight up front, also.
