Because I pull a JD that will run less than 2000rpm, I was having a difficult time finding a low rpm tach. In Summit and Jegs, they sell a digital tach made by Cyberdyne. The main office is about 15 minutes from my house so I called and made arrangements to speak with one of their engineers. They have a nice product but I was concerned with how the tach would jump around between readings. They actually gave me one to try and my assumption was right. Maybe it was the uneven impulses that the Deeres were know for. I have wanted to put it one of our farmalls but you know how time can be low this time of year. Sorry for babbling so much.

By the way, I did find a 0-4000 rpm tach from Autometer (For what it is worth)

Burns- Are you running the standard distributer or the LP? does it read to the nearest 100, 10, or 1 RPM? I was considering one for my JD A. Also will it connect to a MSD box? Thanks Mike

Mike I am running a standard distributor with the Pertronix pointless system. I have added the MSD for this season and the Autometer tach will work with it. I have a schematic that was faxed to me from MSD if you are interested in it.

The cyberdyne tach reads in increments of 1, unfortunately. The engineer explained that he can adjust the reading based on the displayed rpm and the actual engine rpm if there is any difference. One nice thing about the cyberdyne is that you can adjust it for 2,4,6, or 8 cylinders. Because I have a standard distributor, I have set my autometer tach for a 4 cylinder. The autometer tach does work whether or not you use the MSD box.

I know how popular Dennys carb shop is, but they sell a zero to 3000 rpm tach. I have had one for about 3 years now and it seems to work well. I think they are like 100 bucks.

Tyler what brand tractors do you and your uncle have these Denny's tachs installed on? It was my understanding that they would not work with the standard distributor on a Deere. How does it get it's signal? Is there a wire that wraps around one of the plug wires? I bought a little digital tach from Northern Industries a couple years ago and it was reading weird, (Double I think, can't really remember)j. But it picked up the impulse off of the plug wires.
Thanks

Mine is on an oliver, his is on a case. On the back of this tach there is a place to calibrate it, and a place to select 2,4, or 6 cylinders. There is a wire that goes to the negative side of the coil, one that gets hooked to a + wire or someplace hot, one that is the ground, and one for a light, I think that all the wires without going out to look I don't know. I am not sure how to hook it up with an msd box. i am using a stock distributor from an 88, I forget what kind it is. I put the electronic stuff in it though.
