Building MM 'U' puller

I have some questions about building a puller out of a MM U. I found a U last weekend and want to build a puller. I know that it comes down to how much a person wants to spend, but here are my thoughts. I have access to a 336 motor and (I think I can get) a 403 engine. Do I just go with the bigger pistons from the 336 and off-set grind my crank, or do I try and get the 403 engine, change the crank, blocks, heads, etc. If I change to either of these configurations, do I want to change the cam?
Guess what I would really like to do is go with the 403, bore it with new pistons (where do I find new pistons?), off-set grind the crank?? (to get a little more stroke), grind the cam (what specs do I need to grind the cam too?, and do some head work and manifold work. Am I missing anything? I would like to kinda know what I am doing before I spend money and time doing something wrong. Thanks. Chris

A lot of pullers put M-5 blocks and a G crank into U's. The M-5 blocks look the same as U but the rod angle gets pretty sharp. If you put G blocks on it you can use the G connecting rods and the rod angle is good. The blocks are an inch taller. If you use 4210 heads you will get on a 403 you will have preignition problems without high octane gas, (aviation fuel).

I used the pistons Dave mentioned. Also, if you are going to run stock or stock plus 10 or 20% over rpms I would stick to the stock cam. Make the heads and manifold flow as much air as you possibly can. A 400+ cubic inch engine will need way more air than the stock heads and manifold can possibly provide. Art

These guys have put you on the right track this is not a lot of money for a good engine but i would change the cam, at stock rpm i picked a 408 w/4210 heads up 16pto HP, 180$ cam and lifter regrind put it back ahead of the pack.LW
