I"m a fairly new puller and have a question about tires for my 1945 A. It's got a power block which has been bored .125 over, JD 60 push rods, Heisler Head and manifold, big nut G carb, 1st reduction gear and I use Champion D51 plugs. Have I got enough "pop" to turn a set of 18.4 x 38"s with 23 degree tread? Everything else I"ve tried so far, I just spin out. We pull only in the summer on dirt tracks. Thanks for your help.

What's the biggest tire you've tried? Also what weight class do you pull? It's hard to tell what will and won't work when so much depends on the type of track and sled. You could spin out w/ 18.4-38s at one place and choke w/ 15.5-38s at another. My best guess would be you could turn 18.4s at 6500lb. and lighter.

I just sold a 47 JD-A with the very same setup you described, but it had the high 1st gear, dynoed 55 hp. You may get away with the 18.4 x 38's because of your low 1st gear. I would recommend 16.9 x 38's they are a good alround tire size. my 2 cents.

hey there....ain't talked to you in a while...how'd ya do this season? got any plans this winter?..haha..lol....i would guess that it would handle 18.4x38's, because we have a JD A, 1950 that we pull in 2nd gear with 18x38's. you can't on ALL tracks, but you could on the ones we pulled on. it has just .090 pistons and alot of head work. it runs for no more than wuts done with it. we got alot of work to do on that big a..haha..... its not holdin together like we want it to...and its just a 7.25" stroke..haha..... we keep breakin stuff from the compression...any suggestions? need to beef it up a lil..so it will hold..haha..or lower the compression..haha...we pull that as a fast low tractor in second gear with 16.9x38 tires up to the 6500 class...it has around 65 horse..... ..

Don't have any plans for the JD-G, 68 hp for another year. May do some pump and injector work on the 4010, with the possibility of a turbo. That is a very good running JD-A you guys have, it will be tough to beat when you get the reliability issue figured out.
