Some were cast Iron ( real Heavy ), and some were Aluminum ( Lighter )... Always weigh each piston to be sure you have a Balanced set.... if you don't and one is heavier than the other, the engine Will have a Shake... All JD 2 cylinder piston--Rod assemblies were weighed to check for weight, before assembly at the factory... You can lighten the heavyest one, to match the other... Ron.

I suggest youask Mr. Clooney.!!

I personally would use the Aluminum pistons... I feel that since they are lighter, they pose less load on the Rods, and are not as likely to break..... !! If aluminum pistons are annodized on the combustion end, they will absorb less heat--the main advantage of a cast iron piston.... OR, you can have the piston tops Ceramic coated, to lessen the heat absorpion even more....! I have NO idea if your 2 pistons are designed to give the same compression....!!! Ron.
