what do you have for a 1256 or 1456 (got on of each spotted, dont know which one to start with, the 1256 is more complete and in better shape) what do you think?

They are the same tractor both have the 407 but the wrist pin in the 1256 is smaller then the one in the 1456 so there for u could spin more rpms. But what do u plan on pulling and what class? the first thing I would do is take a good over look of the motor and see how tight the rear end is. If they need motor work it is going to cost a lil bit. But stock motor with big pump u can get 4200 rpms becouse i know a guy with a p-pump and he is around 4500 rpms. but what is your plan?

Wonk, do you know how goofy you sound? Wrist pin size has nothing to do with rpms cousin. If you are building one of these babys to run, the bigger pin is what you want, it will hold up better. Also, it wasn't just the 12 that ran the small wrist pin, the 1456 ran it as well, it was used in the earlier motors in both the 12 and the 14. As far as rpms, your pump and governor set that, and if you are at stock stroke, you can go a lot more than 4200, but good luck to you!

not real sure, the rules are not finalized. Prob. start off with stock cu in, maybe a little bigger turbo. was the p-pump on the 407 an inline pump, how was it mounted?

To put a p-pump on a 407 or 361 u have to have a RD gear with were found on the 806 with the RD pump and I am not sure if they had that on other tractors. I have 5 RD gears that i have just picked around my way. As for the wrist pin bone head was talking about yes the early 407 had the small ones, but i ment if u want good safe rpms makes u have the big wrist pins.If you want a pump i have a list of people with pumps forsale right now i can get used 450 rossas all day

I seen a p-pump on a 1206 with a 407 and it takes quite a bit of work...oil return line is in the way, the linkage to it needs rework, lines suck to run..kind of a mess. If you want to go that big go to a 400 series motor... that is just my way of thinkin.

If you are talking about Bobby (1206 with cab) that is a 361 becouse my cousen sold him a motor and he has sold him every rebilud kit. You are going to have to do all the same crap if you put a 450 pump on (run all new lines and charge pump)and why do you think if u sould go big go to a 400 series motor? I know of 2 407 blocks right now for sale that are 504 or bigger. You can have them 400 series junk

Who is bobby? I am sorry I dont know this guy or his tractor. But since you are full of knowledge I also want to know how to get 504 cu in out of a 407 and make it hold.

If the 400 series is junk why do you see so many 1066's pulling? Not trying to fight but I am just wondering.

Thanks

If u want to learn alot about the 407 go post on www.pulloff.com and ask there. As for the 66's it is all most like going to wal-mart to get parts anyone can pull them tractors, but dont get me wrong they are a real good farm tractor. If u think i am a IH master u are wrong i am learning just like everyone eles i know what i hear and know what i see. so if u want to talk like a prick have at it becouse i dont have time for that crap. 361 and the 407 are the best motors IH ever made. the_wonk is out u pricks

Wonk, whats wrong?????? in reply to The_Wonk, 12-10-2004 14:34:19

Wonk, whats wrong?? I just wanted to know what you have done to your tractor to back your claims that are completly backwards. Before you go spouting off nonsense info that someone might take to heart and put money towards, stop and think about it, would you like it if you spent thousands of dollars on some bs that someone mentioned and you believed??? But hey, to each his own buddy!!

So Wonk, enlighten us, what do these "big" cube 407's use for pistons, sleeves, etc???? If you bore the block, the biggest you can dare go without a sleeve is to 466 cubes, and you can then use pistons right out of another tractor related to the 1456. But that is as big as you dare go, or the blocks get thin. Tell us master of the IH, what have you done to your tractor, nothing I'm thinking except turn the screw on the pump.

No pal, its not bored to 501 or 517, if you stroke the cranks, yeah, then you can get the cubes, but, you CANNOT bore to that cubes in these blocks, understand what I'm saying?? Call em back, ask how far they stroked em?

It is all about stoke when u want to make cu in in a 407 i know that he has a 3/4 stroke wich takes the 4 5/8 stoke to 5 3/8 but not running a sleave and the guy with the 517 has a bigger bore but i am not sure on the size but same stroke. so i did not lie when u can get over 500 cu in ?

Hey slick, I never said you couldn't get over 500 cubes, but, if you read your own post above, you said it was BORED to 501, and I told you, it doesn't work, we never said anything about stroking. So, you're an expert on stroking them now though, huh?? You know what, you sound just like ChadS, just keep digging your hole deeper, talking out of your A$$, and turning in circles. I can tell all you are is some punk kid sitting at his computer arm chair pulling, you know it all, but yet I'm sure you have never done any of the kind of prementioned work on your tractor, or any other tractor, have you????? Go away kid!
