At the Nat. Farm Machinery show in KY a few years ago, I saw a JD 6030 with a JD 466t motor. They took out the 531 and said the 466 bolted right in. It had the P-pump and 800HP. Will a 466 or 404 bolt right in place of the 531? I am thinking of getting a 5020 and doing this to it if it will work. The 5020 we have pulls good, but a high rpm, 800 horse 5020 would pull better:-).

Cheater JD pullers make me laugh. Any smart person would not use a 5020 or a 6030 unless you plan on pulling the heavy classes. And you might as well put a 619 in it, like they say if your going to cheat, cheat big. Go ahead us Red pullers will let you have 2nd or 3rd. just joking don't take it so personal.

To the best of my knowledge a 466 will not replace a 531. John Deere made two basic engine sizes. The small block (302 gas, 340D, 404D, and 466D and others), and also the big block (531, 619). These different size engines are not interchangeable, but any small block can be changed with any other small block while the big blocks interchange with each other too. Not saying that it could not be done, but it would take a tremendous amount of work. As far as the rearends go, they are able to handle over 2000 HP, but what you dont realize is that many pullers have invested thousands of dollars in custom gears, shafts, bearings, and axles to handle this type of HP.

Hope this helps,

brad

I have a neighbor who put a 466 in a 4620 for the farm stock class. OK till he got busted for that motor in that tractor. Now he's putting on 4440 sheet metal and fenders to get around it.

It may happen for a while but engine/drivetrain life would be brief & hot at 800HP. Fuel tank fill intervals would be short as well.

It wouldn't be hooked to nothing but a sled probably. I am not too worried about breaking anything in the rear; the rearends are monsters. Still yet, will the two bolt together? Or, how about a 466T in a 4430?

Some of the ealy 4430's rear ends didn't handle stock HP. If going all hog there is no substitute for cubic inches. How about the classic swap of the turbo 619 into a 5020 or better yet the beefier 6030?
