Did Case sell these tractors from the factory with the Detroit engines or was this a DEALER re-power conversion. If the latter is true, would it make it illegal to pull in an antique stock class whose rules specify that tractor must have same engine and engine block with correct casting numbers from FACTORY to qualify?

Thanks for you input.

Antque Power did a artical several years back and they said that it was a after market kit that you installed Iam sure that some dealers did the conversion but it was not a factory option. They also offered the kit for the F-30 and the M farmall.

Both clubs that I pull with have a stock-original block rule. No repowers or customs that gramps had used in the field. If you could that 40 Cockshutt that I found with the 390 Ford in it would be getting overhauled right now! Where are you from? I saw a LA Case with a 3 cyl. Detroit in it about 2 years ago up here in eastern ND. I also saw a U Allischalmers with a 2 cyl. Detroit.

you probably opened another can of worms here but this is my two cents. look for a serial # on converted tractor.I was told # was on engine. No original engine No #.the factory would have numbered them.this is from an LAI owner with conversion from egging???( supposedly the factory!!!!)

To ihcSuperM and other tractor friends; In responce to this question, in the Case part of this forum, I will respond here also. I am only aware of only 1 Case LA that was sold brand new with a Detroit engine, but this was with a 4-71. A friend of mine owns it now and he also has the documentation that verifies it was sold new like this. There could have been others however though, I just don't know. The NATPA has allowed him to pull with this tractor, I believe in division 2. I own a Case LAI with a Egging converted 3-71 Detroit, but my conversion was done several years after it was new. There was also several other companies, that did these conversions. Whether you could pull them or not would depend upon the pulling association
