The Hudson Mills (North of Ann Arbor)club has two steel wheel pulls each year. The Mid Michigan club (Oakley) has a couple of steel wheel pulls each year. There are several other steel wheel pulls around. Competitive tractors are Fordsons, Oliver or Oliver Hart Parr 70's, F20/30 Farmall's, B/WC/WD Allis, and many others. Let me know if I can help further.

Thanks A.P., Any idea what it takes to get a steel wheeled J.D. D competitive? Any idea what the weight rules are, what the hitch rules are, what lugs work best & anything else I need to know. I hate to be a bother to you but I would really like to pull me steel wheeled D. Thanks

The different groups all have their own spin on the rules. Generally all require that the drabar extend past the radius of the rear wheels, be rigid and no more than 18" high. All groups that I am aware of require the use . You must start with a tight(!!!) chain. No jerking , bouncing, etc. No excessive front end rise. Some groups require the use of wheelie bars. Stock or 10% over on RPM's. Some place run weight classes others run percentages. Some run a heavy and light class which is determined by dividing the number of tractors in half.

Stock steel wheels are fine. This is usually a drivers (including balancing and somewhat positioning) game more than anything else. A good running D can be competitive.

If you would like to talk further please email me your phone number off list. I can also put you in contact with others who have more experience

Take care,
A.P.

I'm not from Michigan, I'm in Tennessee. Every year at out local show we have a big steel wheel pull. It's the only one in our state I know of. I will list our classes and tell you the kind of tractors that pull and the tough ones in each class - we pull by plow classes: Light steel: JD B, IH F-12,14, B AC - F-14 is hard to beat. Light Medium: GP JD, AC WC, Farmall H - toss up on winner. Medium: A JD, F-20, C,CC Case, 10-20 McCormick Deering - all are competetive the F 20's usually winning. Medium Heavy: KT Twin City, 18-27 Hart parr - winner is a toss up. Heavy: G & D JD, F-30, W-30, M, 80 Oliver - G JD has the advantage. Most of these tractors look as if they just come out of the fence row. Money hasn't ruined that pull yet

Where is this pull in Tennessee. I am relocating to the area later this year and that sound very interesting to me. Thanks, Sam
