sure a 88 engine will bolt right in. All that you need to do is shorten the drive shaft. Took my boys 77 out to Wichita, entered it in division three, when they inspected the motor the guy kinda scratched his head and went over to his 88, came back and looked at it again and said ( heck, thats a 88 engine} you can't pull it because it's not the right block length. only difference between a 77 and 88 is the 88 block is a inch longer, quater inch more stroke piston size is the same.

I had a 77 with a 1800 gas motor stuffed in it.That will give you a pretty good ride.

How about a 77 with a 552 stroker in 3500lb,that would be fun, perhaps road gear would be in order.

It will bolt right in.You will have to shorten the shaft between bellhousing and rearend about a inch. What we did is cut the 77 shaft in half cut a inch out and slide another pipe inside to keep it straight and welded it back together then you wont have to mess with the splines.

exhaust will come out same hole. You do not have to move radiator but you will have to find a fan with small blades on it to fit in the shroud or take the shroud off.

Sure you can, it will fit, just don"t try and pull it at a NATPA pull, just ask MadMassey, he can tell you all about it.

Why not go ahead and put a 310 Waukesha in instead? You could go turbo diesel (310) or go with the 7 main gas (VRG283). Either will fit fairly easily!

There have been several 7 main motors put into 77 chassis in my area!

If you find a 1947 88 you can get it just as light as a 77 if not lighter .I know where there is one that might be for sale.

I would stick with the 77 if lighter is what you want. There are more ways to do that conversion than are often thought of and it sure does make easier horsepower.
