Last week our club had a general meeting to discuss a few items including the rules for the 2002 season. There was a friendly discussion on whether to keep the rule allowing the first puller in each class to come back and repull in 3rd position. *some felt it was a disadvantage to the first puller of the day especially on a wet track
*most agreed that the second pull is often shorter than the first.
*would reduce the total time for the pull by eliminating repulls

The majority of the members voted to keep the rule allowing the puller get another pull. I didn't have a problem either way but I was curious what other clubs allow? Care to share.

I think that the 1st puller rules are OK, however, they do add time to the show. The comment about watching the 1st puller & then making weight re-adjustment is right on the money, let's face it - we all do it. Around here, if the 1st puller declines the 1st pull, he re-enters the line as puller #10. Not a bad idea, as it forces the gut to think a bit before the hook is dropped as to whether or not he really wants to do it again. As we all know, track conditions can change significantly over the course of a particular class. Advantages / disadvantages all around. - One thing that I do think would be nice is if at sign-up, nobody is guaranteed a particular starting slot - The slots are filled via draw like a heat race at your local dirt track - Making it such that a guy doesn't feel compelled to show up several hours before his hooks start, and keeping everyone honest relative to pulling order. That way, the same guy isn't sitting on top of the list for several classes & several weeks in a row.

fred; think about this. you are the 1st puller. you pull 250 ft. you drop an come back an pull 3rd. the guy that pulls 2nd ties your first hook that you refused. on your rehook you go 252 ft. when class is over you have won. you beat the guy that pulled 2nd.the 1st puller in each class definately has the advantage if he has a competitive tractor an he knows what he is doing. if you have used this rule to win a class you like it. if this rule has beat you you hate it. if it don't bother you it's time for a new hobby.personally i like to pull last. the last puller always has a excuse if he gets beat. answer my question. what is that excuse????? later 820puller

The pulls I go to say that the first puller of each class can turn down his pull if not satisified. He can repull at the end of the class and has to keep his last pull.

Burns, hows things with you? I have been to pulls were this was the norm, but it was mostly to check out the sled weight/setting for that class. rather than all getting 50 or so feet or all getting full pulls and having to do it all over again. I agree with Mike and Ken on the rule.
Take care, when do we get to see the G pull? Got a big pull in Sterling Colo Feb 16, this gives you plenty time to get there.
Best of everything to you and your's.
Bob J.

Maybe I'll drive the G. The tires could use a litte more road wear. Of course I'd probably be DQ for having altered bars because nobody would believe they are not cut. HA HA

I was hoping to pull at the Delkab pull at Columbus. Turns out that is the daughters tap dance recital. Probably not the best way to start the pulling season with the little lady.

We still allow the first puller in each class to repull if they want to. Some associations just let the first puller of the day repull. Unless I know I did something stupid I usually take my first pull. Nine times out of ten it is a wise decision. Mike

I like the first puller rule. Think how many times you have moved weights from front to rear (or) after watching the first puller ,

No repull for first puller unless sled operator needs to reset sled, Also cuts down on time.
