Just a friendly reminder that the next puller meeting is Sunday, Jan. 30. at 10:00a.m. There will be an attempt to "hop up" Farm Stock Class in three possible ways:

1. Move the speed limit from 2.5 up to 3.0 mph.
2. Eliminate 50ft. cones and go to a 3-beep rule.
3. There was talk of allowing sharpened tires.

I did some research and most stock low gear speeds range from 2.2-2.8 mph with the exception of creepers. The one-beep rule after 50 ft. allows stock tractors to get their speed correct and remain constant as they go down the track. This way farm and show tractors do not have to worry about hotter machines "playing the horn" and spinning quickly at the end of the track. Sharpened tires are NOT used on farm stock and show tractors. The pullers in this class should not have to worry about this either. If the proposed changes were made there would be almost nothing differentiating Farm Stock class from the rest. I have spoken with pullers from all over the state that came to pull with us last year for one reason: A fair & fun stock tractor class. The number of hooks and new pullers has gone WAY up since this class has began and might increase even more if we bumped up to a later year limit. Let's keep a good thing going. Welcome faster, stronger, cut tractors to our OTHER TWO great classes! I hope you can make it to the Eagle Town Hall Sunday morning at 10:00a.m. Tell your friends and forward this message on to anyone you think may like to lend their support. Thanks!

Just my 2 cents, the speed limit should not matter one bit because if everybodys tractor is truly stock it is equal for everybody, the other way to make it equal is to have a dyno at the pull then you know if a tractor is stock.
There is nothing wrong with the three beep rule I seen alot of people last year get past the 50 foot mark and blow the horn, then they are done that is not fun people have gotten away from the the whole reason we are there to have fun!!!
Last but not least there should be no cut tires in the farm stock class because that defeats the whole purpose of having the stock class. The main thing to make it all work is to have proper enforcement of the rules, and for once I am going to be watching very closely this year to make sure that happens!

Thanks for the input. I've been talking with some friends of mine about this. The reason we used 2.5mph was because we were hoping to equalize tractors and avoid playing the "dyno game". With M&W kits it is hard to regulate, takes time, and causes arguments, taking the fun out. When you are slowed down, h.p. is not a factor. Since everyone has to have stock hitches and tires, no one gets to run away with it even if they have an extra 15 h.p. The cones are the same way. Old show machines don't have to compete with people "playing the horn" and racing at the end of the track. Cones favor the fellas that know their old farm tractor. If the beeps make anyone nervous, that is why our HIGHLY USED & ENJOYED Antique/Classic class exists. If these changes are made, there is not much difference between these classes. I watched so many people come from all over because this was different than the rest. I'm just hoping to keep it that way. Thanks for the input. At least I know you and I agree there should be a spot for the farm & show folks that would like to try their hand at a little pull fun now and then.

Is there any talk about increasing the number of weight classes for the full cut tires? Right now I think you only have 4000 and 4500. I'd like to see 5500, 6500, and 7500. I pull at several other clubs and they all allow any cut on the tires. It gets to be a real hassle to keep swapping tires around all the time. This also might bring in some new pullers if you open the class up to heavier tractors.

Hey Bus Man. As far as I know, they did the full cut tire deal for a couple of classes for folks such as yourself. Changing tires can be a real pain. You may want to speak to Marty Feldpausch about this. He brought up the idea last year. I thought it was a pretty good one. I am guessing it will come up Sunday at Eagle. I hope you can make it. Like LeRoy said, something for 15 to 150 horsepower! I have a feeling a few more folks would pull too. Ok, so tell me which of you two brothers is "Bus Man"?

I'm with you Ethan. I think the only real change contemplated is to go to 3 beeps instead of the cone. But I think that defeats the idea of the whole class. The important thing is to come to the meeting and voice your opinion. I would hate to see this class messed with. It has brought a lot of new faces and tractors the last couple of years. This is great to see this happen in a sport where the trend seems to be more power and faster. We have a place for that too but not in this class. I'm proud to be a part of a club that offers something for everyone from 15HP to 150HP. Thanks, LRN

This is at Eagle Township Hall in the small town of Eagle, Sunday January 30th. Eagle is West of Lansing I believe. Take a look on the map, it is not too far off the freeway. New members always welcome! I would like to pull at Remus this summer. I hear it is very nice. E-mail me or call if you need more info.

Ethan, why not make a new class for these tractors? This is commonly done all over the country. That way everyone has a place to pull, you get more hooks which translates into more money for the pull so it remains viable and you have a continued opportunity to pull. Just a thought..:-) Mike

Mike, this IS our new class! Only about two years old. We also have a 3-beep 3.0 class and a 4.5 class with more liberal rules for other tractors. You got the idea. This is the new class, very popular, many hooks just like you suggested, but it is getting hi-jacked.

The proposed changes do not sound like a good idea. Especially since the group already has the 3mph class. I am assuming the 3mph class only allows top bar cut tires.

What problems are these changes supposed to correct?

Yes, our 3.0 Classic and 4.5 Fun classes are top cut tires and such with a 3-beep rule. I fail to see the reasoning for any change except people want to get their machines in that class to whoop on the show/farm guys. There was some rule violators exposed last year and I think that is part of it. Come join the club Alan. Olivers are always welcome!

I was not able to make it to any of your pulls last summer but I am planning on making an extra effort this year. Besides, some one has to keep your Molines from running loose. ;^)
