I know the sky is the limit for a bottomless purse, but lets be realistic and practical. When M&W made stroker cranks, they where 5 3/4 and required block and cam grinding. If a stock crank is cut and stroked, whats the limit before block and cam grinding becomes excessive and reliability suffers? I'm guessing 6 to 6 1/4 with stock rods. One reputable engine builder I'm aware of can go the 6 3/8 or 6 1/2 with custom crank/rods and no cam grinding. But the dollars per cubic inch ratio is very high!

The M W 5 3/4 crank does not require any grinding or modification.I have one I built.

From what I've been told, 6-1/4 is probably your best bet if on a budget like me. You can use stock rods with a piston that has the rist pin location to accomodate the additional stroke. There is a minimal amount of grinding to block and camshaft. Check with Lemmons Tractor Service. They seem to have an excellent reputation when it comes to this stuff.

Know one guy who's gone 6 1/2 with the standard M rod.
