The 720 both gas and diesel balance very well and have enough power for the type of pulling that you are looking at. I and my father both pull 720 diesels and are very competitive. We win some and are usually in the top 3 or 4 at the worst. One place that we pull several times a year it is usually me, dad, 2 different 720 gas and a 620 that top out the 9500 & 10500 classes.
I have even pulled in 12500 with my 720 and won the class. That is against an 80 (little brother), 830, 4020, a Cockshutt 1900GM and a few others. In strictly stock antique pulling, the 720 can be made a pretty good puller.

As far as just having fun, that's the name of the game in my book. Even if you don't win or place, pulling can be great fun. At the least it is a good way to meet great people.

Fine in stock 8000-10,000lb classes. The three main factors to consider in order to pull are traction, traction and traction. Then the other factors of weight fore/aft balance, drawbar length and tire pressure.
