If anyone needs some of these, I can get them and rings/pins for a reasonable cost.

I am trying to build a JD B, but I don't know what I need for pistons. I have a power block which I am planning to bore out to 1.25. I don't know what pistons to use with a 6" crank with hisler knuckle head. I would appreciate any help. Thank you.

I've got 5.125 Lycoming pistons or 5.25 Continentals if you need them. Someone may correct me, but I think the 5.25s would require that you sleeve it. The 5.125's will go in without incident. They are a LOT shorter than standard Power Block Pistons so you will end up making different rods for it.

You may have heard this before, but you have a small crank... What class are you going to run?

Yes, I know I have a small crank, but I bought it and the block cheap enough. Where we pull we don't have division rules. our club rules are a cross between division I and division II. I don't need to win, I just need to be competitive and consistent. How much difference in rod length would I need? How much are your pistons for 1.25?

I don't know about you son! It would make me mad as hell if someone told me I had a short crank. If it is short make it mighty, and keep this in your mind, it costs as much to take a winner to the track as a looser! All jokes to the side you need help from Mr. John Deere B" W.T.W. so Jump in here Dave and give the boy a hand.

What is a Hisler Knuckle head? --- Is that just a Heisler flat head? -- Never heard it called a knuckle head.

5.8125" would be where the piston needs to sit relative to the back mating surface of your block. You will need to get it turned a little bit on a lathe to make a cone like power block pistons. I don't know the stock rod length so I can't give you an exact "new" rod length, just where the piston needs to sit.

Send me an e-mail direct if you want.

Flat top, domed or dished? Pin dia and retaining method? Pin height to deck? Over all piston height? Sounds like these are short enough not to "fall out" from the back of the block?

I am most familiar with the 5.125"s. Don"t have the info handy on the 5.25s.

Flat top piston Pin dia and retaining method? - 1.125, floating pin

Pin height to deck? 1.875 centerline to top of piston

Over all piston height? 3.3125

Sounds like these are short enough not to "fall out" from the back of the block? At 8.5 stroke, the "buttons" on the pins will come partiallyout of the hole, but still be captured.

I was thinking of keeping all the rings and not getting them caught heading back into the bore. Is this a factor or all the rings above the piston pin?

You won"t have that problem. All the rings are above the pin. 2 compression, 1 oil ring.
