I am building a mild 1941 JD B and I would like to try and find a stroker crank for it if possible. It will have late styled B gas pistons in it. Any info would be appreciated.

Curiosity question - what cam you planning to use? I am doing a similar build-up without the stroker.

use a 520 or 530 cam just have the gears machined off that runs the dist.

I believe you would be better off to use a power block... That is a 5" bore...!!! With that kind of power, you should be able to "wring" the axles off... Broke 4 axles myself....picking corn, with a 226 mounted picker...!! You arent going to stall any good average Gas"B" in 1st gear... tires will quit before it does.... ( or the axles)....!!!

I have a '37 B with a 5" power block, gas A carb, later model crank and flywheel and a gas manifold. I always seem to run out of power in 1st gear. It has 13.6 x 38 tires. What's wrong??

The late model crank is only 5 1/2" stroke. You don't have enough stroke to run the 2 1/2 mph. first gear. The unstyled B's were a weak tractor to begin with, and in my opinion the hardest JD's to build. I pull one with a 5" power block, 6 1/2" stroke, it has a 520 cam, offset rockers, and a Big nut G carb and electronic ignition. I too run a 13.6 x 38 tire. It is still very hard to match a good running WC Allis.

The '37 "B" must have low compression pistons, not tuned "on the money", or---Your 1st gear is the same as the Late "B's" 2nd gear...!!RPM's probably should be about 1,320 at high Idle... A "B" was a Wonderful tractor that would do much more than should have been asked of it....!!! The Late Gas ones, especially... Seriously, I WOULD reverse the wheels, to put the hubs near the axle housings to take some strain off them....OR have them Magnafluxed to be sure they are sound....( Preferred )... The "50" axles were much stronger...only one key-way...not all splined, like the "B"..

Bryan, I got a 38 "B" with a Power Block, 15.5X38" tires and it sometimes runs out of power too, that is in second gear in the 5000# class. In the 3500# and 4000# pound class I have never ran out of power yet and have never pulled it in low gear in these classes either. It takes allot more than just a Power Block to get them to that level and don't let anybody blow smoke up your pipe. If you were pulling a late model "B" with a creeper gear you wouldn't even need a Power Block and you would have all the power in the world but I like to let people know that I am moving forward when I am going down the track. There is allot of difference from 1.5 mph and 4 mph and the power it take to run one down the track at that speed and speed will always prevail, thank goodness for speed limits or I too would get beat allot more than I do. Oh and by the way I have never broke the transmission or an axle, yet! Wish I could say that on another puller I have, I think it must be that six cylinder diesel and turbo that had something to do with that. If you want more information email me and we will talk some more. Good Luck, Dave W.
