What's the better tire to pull with??? Going to pull the 3500-5500 with 13.6X38's. ALSO....Think a 4 ply is too light of a sidewall??? Thanks for opinions in advance..

770, usually the 23 degree tires will be the best all around tire than the 45's will be. But in their place the 45's can do very well. They are a very "track specific" tire and are less "general purpose" than the shallower angle tires. On super hard tracks (what I call "black mark" tracks) they work well due to the simple fact of putting more rubber on the surface of the track, not really traction but just friction. They also do well on really loose tracks as Glen (B&D) mentions, although a properly cut 23 degree tire will hook on sand. But I have yet to see where they consistently will outpull the Firestones or the 30 degree BFG tires. A blind sow will find an acorn every once in awhile and I'm not saying the 45's won't beat the 23's at times, but week in and week out the Firestones will make you much happier. Mike

Loose tracks, tall bar 45's. Hard clay tracks, short bar 23's.

I have no experience with cut tires , but I bought a set of 45 degree goodrich and after pulling with them for two years have dubbed them "slipomatics" they are on 880 oliver. I have a set of 23 degree firestones on a old 88 that has less power and a lot of times it will outpull the 880 in same class running 1 gear lower purely on traction.I am thinking of swapping tires for upcoming year to see how much difference it makes.

If they are cut right for your tractor and you have the right rim width with the right air preasure. Both brands will hook up.Tradionally stones hook the best But nothing wring with goodriches!!

770, the 4-ply tires should be just fine. Just be sure to run a good air pressure in them. They will be less forgiving of running "soft". What weight classes will you be running? Most folks run their tires entirely too soft on their pulling tractors. Mike

3500 to the 5500 lb. class div.2 My 770 always ran 6 or 8 ply depending on what set of tires I ran. I can get a REALLY good deal on the 4 ply field and road but never owned a 4 ply..... .

sorry to bust in on your discussion, but i have some tire questions. first, with kelly-springfield 45's, what is a good starting pressure?16.9-30's pulling 5500-6500 class. second, my tires are pretty old, and have some dryrot cracks between the bars, averaging 3-5 inches long. the bars are almost brand new, and i would hate not being able to use them. besides, i don't have the money to buy new, or used unless i get a really good deal. i would apreciate any help. thanks

Have to play with air pressure to see where it will work best for you. You want your "footprint" to lay as flat as possible. Too soft though and the center of the tire will not bite. Small cracks in the tire usually no need for concern as long as the sidewalls look good.....

thanks for your help. i'm just worried about the tires walking out of the tread if i put too much torque to them. and, i'd hate to drive 2-3 hours to a pull, only to have them tell me my tires won't pass inspection. that would really suck! :)
