Just tossing this question out there. I know all the "textbook" objections to putting 15.5's on 12" rear tractor rims, but have many of you had personal experience doing this? What were the results? I have only once seen it done and they were new tires on a late model DC CASE. I know 13.6's are considered standard and yield good traction, but I sure look the looks of those "big shoes." Thanks, Glenn F.

I ran 15.5 Armstrongs on my MM UTU in 5500 class. The rims were stock MM 12" rims. This tractor always got good traction even though the engine was an oil burning dud. The tires were pinched some but very hard with sharp flat spots wore in the middle of the tread. I ran lower air pressure and did good. The crappier the track, the better I could place.

It depends alot on the pulling surface. I've seen 15.5's on 10" rims pulling indoors on a very hard surface. The guy kicked butt. Put those same tires and rims on a dirt track and you'll just spin out. Not enough tire surface on the softer track.

From experience, I good friend ran 14.9 on a 9" rim and it bit like nothing I've ever seen! They were even 45 degree tires. He did run really low air pressure which made it harder for the heavier classes. But always placed in his light class. Hope this helps - but I must say I've only seen it work with 28" wheels in the light classes

14" rims would look a whole lot better, and the tire then has a flat foot-print...

got them, only used them a few times, had to run the air low to set them flat. we used the 12" rim to try to make the tire taller.

The rims are fine, I have done this more than I care to type. The 12" rims will have to pinch the tire some, this is cured by lowering the air pressure. Let me know, I will talk it better than typing.
