I like the 2 weight governors, the M&W is a 4 weight system. The 2 weight system, is much lighter therefore accelerates faster, not as prone to shut the carb down, when the rpms drop fast under a hard pull on the engine. its the second best thing to having a direct throttle, I like them on stroker engines, and stock engines,, they are easier to tune and get higher rpm out of it. M&W governors,, are ok, but sluggish in responce time it takes, to open the carb once the hand lever is moved, but once they are open,,, they are open, and stay at the rpm you set them to (NO load) but, nothing inbetween, the reponce time is so slow, that when you notice the rpm drop, and try to acclelerate, its too late, the engine rpms drop too low before the governor wakes up and opens up the carb. Possible end result on the track is,,, a "Power Stall" They have a tendancy to surge too. Too lite of spring, and it will overpower the spring tension and bounce back and forth. M&W governors are hard to get rpms out of, they are pretty dead set on them not going much over 1750, 1900 all the stops backed out, maybe 1850 if your lucky. they will hold the rpm, but slow in responce time, 2 weight governors, are a more universal, they do respond faster, you can get over 2000 rpms out of them, and not be acting up, (Idleing too fast.) Strokers are faster in responce time anyways over a stocker, compression ratio alone speeds them up quite a bit! Then add the other engine controls to go along with the changes you made. Another good compliment to the governor is the mechanical advance under the points plate, both control systems, are spring tension controlled. The governor springs were weak, and the advance springs were stiff in all the IH tractors, end result,,, lazy throttle responce, Think of reaction times in drag racing, how that can be the decision, on who wins, and who gets put back on the trailer. I say try em both. see which one compliments your driving style, and youll know which one you like better. ChadS
