The E4OD is notorious for cooking torque converter clutches especially behind diesels that are loaded heavy. If you you have 3.55 rear gears it really aggravates the problem. Switching to 4.10s will usually help a lot. Somebody in the aftermarket probably has a converter that will live. The converter is the weak link in the E4OD

BUY A REMAN TRANSMISSION AND TURN YOUR DUD IN FOR CORE VALUE. IF IT HAS HAD THAT MUCH TROUBLE GET RID OF IT!

E4OD is a very durable trans. Yes the torque converters will go out but it is usually because they were overheated due to driving styles. Ford did not put big enough trans coolers on the trucks. Sun Coast makes the best replacement torque converter. There are different levels of performance you can buy and they are bullet proof. They don't give them away, expect around $1300. They also have the best rebuilt transmissions for around $3000. Anyone that hauls loads with an automatic, especially if it is alot of stop and go should have a trans temp gauge. It is amazing how quickly an automatic can heat up under load in stop and go conditions. Also, if you are replacing transmissions make sure to flush your cooler lines. The same grit in the trans oil that ruined your trans is still in the cooler and will go right back into the new trans unless flushed.
