How would it work to put 14.9x38's on 14" rims? My thought was that it would spread the surface of the tire out more to give maximum footprint on the track. The other question is how would it look? Really stupid or not too bad? The tractor is not a high-powered machine. Standard block planed and bored .125 over, big nut G carb, distributor with electronic ignition and hot coil.

That should be a good setup. I run 16.9 tires on 16" rims and it works much better than it did on 14" rims. Having a rim width equal to or greater than the sectional width of the tire really flattens the tread out and allows a little more air pressure to offset the lugs wanting to buckle under the load.

That combination will work well and will also look very good.

You may want to check you're rules, some places won't let you pull with rims wider than the rec. width on the tire; NATPA. They do look fine along with the added traction of the width. You can run a higher air pressure and still keep the foot print.

One of the clubs I pull with has a rule like that. But either 13" rims arent availible anymore, or are hard enough to come by that they allow 14". When I bought mine my tire guy told me he couldnt get 13" rims. Gave me a good excuse anyway!

The tires look good, nice and big. And I have all the grip my tractor can handle in the heavy classes (just has M&W pistons).

We run our 15.5"s on 16"s and our 18.4"s on 20"s. It wont look stupid, it will just lay the tire out more flat, so you have a greater surface area on the ground.

I am running 14.9"s on 14.5 rims. Check the Firestone tire chart and you will find that 15.5"s are only .200 wider than 14.9"s.
