Decided to go a different route then what I was planning on my 70. I bought a block and 90 over M&W pistons. I've also got a lp manifold and plan to change the final drive to the 70 diesel speed. Anybody got any added little tricks for the motor? I read that 125 off the block and head makes a difference. any thing else anybodies done?
Thanks
Rob

My 70 has a power block, propane manifold and head. The one thing I changed recently was to refit the distributor with an electronic ignition and hot coil. What a difference!!

High ratio roller rockers will help a bunch. Picked up 12hp on an A by bolting them on. I would get a cam from anybody BUT Robert, as the ones I've seen of his have a God awful amount of lobe lift. Robert tried to tell me that I didnt need roller rockers w/ his cam, but you would lose a lot of area under the curve w/ his cam and stock rockers vs. a shorter lobe lift cam w/ high ratio rockers.

Drew,

We've had good luck with Roberts but, we're always looking for improvement. Where did/can you find roller rockers for a 70 gas? In your opinion would the rollers be worth it with .150" milled off the head?

Thanks,
Oppy

JDBert,

Buickanddeere about sums it up along with swapping the first reduction gear with a 70 diesel. We went with a K&N dry filter and sent the cam and carb to Roberts. He's a little pricey but he does good work and has stood behind it. Be sure the govenor is in good shape. If your going to all of the above work to make it right, don't over look the govenor.

Cam, nail head intake valves, relieved head eyebrows, port matching, three angle valve job, valve bowl blending, dry air cleaner conversion, remove the mech fan/water pump and run an electric fan/pump, custom dual exhaust from Steve Crum, LP pistons. Then tune the tractor on a dyno. May have to jet the mains larger. M85 gas and a re-worked cark adds HP.

Buick and deere,do you cut back the eybrow back or blend it into the head? Do you know if it does anygood to take 125 off the head and the block? I would guess I would have to either shorten my pushrods or space the lifter arms. Have you ever shortened the lifter arms? I plan on doing the dry air conversion too, I just forgot to add that, on my "A" I used the inner filter from a 4230. On the 70 I think I can go with one from either a 44 or a 4630.

Im gonna make this real easy on you. I have all the parts your looking for. LP intake and exaust(Intake has been widdled out like a piece of wood).I have a head with big valves milled and polished and ported. The divider down the center of the intake of the head looks like a sheet of paper. I have a power block with new 7 inch pistons . Rockers have been shortened. 19 inch wheels 18.4 tires, new radiator. cut rods, magneeders mag, new water pump, wide front basically a whole tractor minus the crank set up for 9.5 stroke. Also have all the wieght brackets and a real nice hitch. I think I have two cams that can go with it. Somebody make an offer and come and get it!
