You probably have more carb than you need. Try a late A carb -- DLTX71 rather than the G carb. How did you figure 38-40HP? Just curious.

i had the tractor dynoed at the deere dealership actual hp was at 38 then jumped when we really almost killed the rpm's to 40hp. that carb isnt too much for the cubes i have looked into that i have the right carbs i just happend to have this NOS DLTX51 that makes it run beautiful if you have it set up right thanks

Yeah i have a few competitive pullers in my toledo ohio area some pulls are FFA pulls with weights others are antique with no weights all close to stock i wish i could get my a down under 4000 but its weighing about 4050-4030 with me on it!!Ive taken out the pto shaft and a little rearend fluid.thats with a gallon or two of fuel too.but i think the 38in rubber is the cause of the weight i myself cannot loose weight of course i am a skinny sixfoot kid haha. thanks for ur help gentalman

a lot depends on what you are pulling against, big motor does not always translate into a winning puller, I pulled for years and weight transfer and TRACTION wins pulls, not always big motor, be careful of raising compression too much as the 2cyl sometimes quit lugging if it gets too high. get a good set of tires, old and hard are best, watch air pressure, you want the whole bar to grab, not just the center. play with weights so you get the front to "float" check with the people you will be pulling with to see what thier rules are about drawbar length and height. you want the drawbar as short as they allow and you will want it as high as they allow. be careful about overfueling with the 51 carb. other than that.....have fun and enjoy

Yes I would build a front weight bracket as long as the rules will permit, brackets in front of the rear axels,15.5x38 tires and pull 1st gear in 4500# and 5000# and most of all have FUN.
