I have a '45 M that has 4" stepped head pistons. Other than that it is a stock rebuild. I need to stay under 1600 rpms and make some more power. Would governor springs and distributor springs help? I can't use an electronic ignition either. I am planning on a fresh carb rebuild too. Do you sell the necessary items? give me some contact information please.

I have the governor springs, Napa has the disributor springs, or "Recurve kit" Yes, they both will help out quite a bit, your speeding up responce time in your engine controls. When the distributor, governor, and carb work together, and work faster, the engine will run a lot better. You can run the governor spring, and still stay under 1600 and still get the responce. Usually, when a tractor has had this kind of work done, the carb has to be rejetted due to the changes. You may find that wit hthe distributor reset, you have more throttle responce, I think, that also can help out torque. the governor, will help the carb respond, and hold a more consistant rpm speed, keeps the carb open in the basement lugging rpms. Stock springs actually shut the carb down faster under a hard pull, the governor weights, overcome the spring tension, result,,, carb shuts down, and the engine shuts down a bit quicker VS one with a modified spring. Basicly, your increasing responce time,,, and you have to tune it from there,,, just those 2 items, will make a big difference in the way it runs. 574-893-7437 (shop) Earl, or Chad. Hope this helps!
