I'm looking at some used trailors in my area. I found a couple that have me a little interesed. One is a 16' with 3' beaver tail and ramps, 3 axel, rated at 18,000#, 1978 model, $2,500. The other is similar but, two axel, 15', with 5' beaver tail, 1978 model also. Don't know price yet. Tri-axel is in a little better condition but both are good. Brakes working on both, both pintle hitches. Is $2,500 fair for a 25+ year old trailor? What is the minimum truck I could pull a 6,000# tractor around with? Clearly more trailor than I need for my DC CASE but I will likely be hauling bigger ones in the future. Thanks, Glenn F.

For around $2,500-$4,000 you can buy a New or Used Gooseneck and it could be 24' instead of 21' little more room for two tractors!

You know, I've been giving that more thought. I like the versitility of a bumper hitch trailor but know there are so many advantages to a gooseneck. I have a 3/4 ton Chevy with one ton springs in the back, 350 with a 4 speed. Could I haul 2 DC's legally with this truck and a 20+ foot goosneck? Glenn F.

Probally not, but all depends if they are trycicle or wide too. I also pull Modified 4WD trucks and am in the process of building a school bus hauler to replace the truck and trailer as I want to pull 4x4's more than the tractors now.

I have been looking at deckovers for a couple months now, and from what I am seeing, like everything else, you get what you pay for. With that said, does anyone have any deckover makers that you would recommend? Just for info, I'm in Hudson Bro trailers back door, but I like to shop around first. I'll be hauling a G around every so often, just want a good trailer that will last. Both goosenecks and tagalongs have avantages. I guess it has alot to do with what will be pulling it.

Here is where it gets sticky... There probably aren"t too many legal pickup truck/trailer combinations out there. Each state is different. I used to pull a 16,000# Gooseneck with a 1980 Chevy 3/4 ton w/built 350. I know that the truck wasn"t rated at that. If you compare the towing ratings on new (this year) with those 5 years ago, they seem to have doubled in capacity. Not sure what changed. On the Chev 2500HD it is over 10000#, over 15k on the 3500HD - I don"t remember them ever being above 10k before.

But like the other guys said, you can buy a new one for 2500-3500 -- 2 5200 pound axles, 4 wheel brakes etc.

If you do a little shopping you can easily find brand new trailers for under $4,000.
