I posted this question a couple weeks ago so if you responded then, no reason to repeat.... I'm still a little unclear why the gooseneck design is on the market. The advantages I'm awware of is sharper turning potential, can run in rougher terrain, and smaller hitch in the truck bed. But don't the advantages of a 5th wheel outweigh? Greator weight capacity, no safety chains, stronger....? What are the pros/cons of each? Thanks, Glenn F.

The gooseneck is the greatest thing since sliced bread, especially with a turnover ball or removeable ball, you have your truck back, and dont have "hitch hauler" I even had my 30 ft camper set up for a ball mount stem, it is great, the fifth wheel is probably going to be a thing of the past when it comes to conveinance, they are good. but the ball mount just has too many advantages.

I have tryed both ways on my trailer. The 5th wheel semes to make my truck ride a little rough, and when i would drive a tractor on to the trailer the king pin would raise up in the hitch and get in a bind .

With a fifth wheel your friends are less likely to borrow your trailer unless they have a fifth wheel! the load rateing should be the same, depending on who built the hitch. In some states safety chains are required for both, in others not required for either. A 5th wheel requires more grease and mainteance.

And I might Add, If you have a fifthwheel, you would be considered a "REAL TRUCK DRIVER" H.H.

After driving a rig 2 weeks out and 2 days home and back out again for another 2 weeks I need a break from the 5th wheel,it dont make me any less a truck driver...I myself would go for a goose neck Ive built them for a living for 5 yrs and 5th wheels also , much less screwin around when you want to use your bed...
