Exaust pipe caculations

Ok, I need a little help here. I once saw a formula for calculating pipe lengths when designing exaust systems for optimal performance, but I cannot seem to be able to remember where it was that I saw it at. I know that it used the cylinder size and stroke, number of cylinders, and size of the exaust pipe in the formula. It told the length of the pipes from the exaust ports to where they joined (on multiple cylinder engines), and also to the optimal length of the single pipe after they joined. Anyone know of a page that might have this info?

eric, last time i saw formula for intake and exhaust was in an old (1978) sports car design book. i think it was called Tune for performance. it was paper back. also remember it in a hard back book on sports car design from England about 1960's. sorry i could not be more specific. the variables are rpm, dia, manifold timing, length and nozzle type. gives very peaky performance at one rpm (on the curve) as the racers use to say, little torque above or below that rpm

Spay your pipe with alumumn paint.pull your tractor mark where your paint is changing color.cut pipe off 1/2 inch above this mark this 1/2 inch will give room to fine tune if you like
