Turns out the 300U engine I was going to get has been sold. I found out later that my uncle got it before me without me knowing but I did find out where it went. LOL! He just did did what I have been wanting to do to that engine and put it in my '51 H. He just rebuilt the 300U engine and put it in his '40 H. Tried to do it without me knowing but I found out. Anyway's, I have access to two more 300U engines and have pulled one and tore it apart. Everything looks good but the crank is screwed. Cly 3 had a bad bearing and scored the journal pretty good. Looking around $300 shipped both ways and turned to get it fixed. So I'm going to pull the other 300U engine and see what that crank is like.

So now onto the questions after a bit of rambling. Wife could care less bout my tractors. LOL! I have the head on the bench and want to shave it a bit. You mentioned earlier about measuring the plate thickness at the triangle water port. How do I measure this? The port is pretty scaly and such. I can come up with about 0.300 using a vernier but it is by no means very accurate by having scaling on it and using a vernier. What should it be stock? Thanks for any help you can give.

Cheers!

Sid

Just been working on the head and was trying to measure the plate thickness. I have a mic and vernier but can't get the tool in close enough to measure the thickness. What measuring tool do you use to measure the thickness?

Cheers!

Sid

I use dial calipers, set the tool on the head deck, and measure how far it is to the bottom. Go no thinner than .250 thick on the head plate thickeness, anything beyond, can be removed. Chad
