Autolite 3116's out of the box are gapped approx. .030. How much more does anyone suggest gapping them for maximum spark when pulling? Also, is this a better plug than a Champion D-23? I've used both in both my John Deere A's and I'm not sure yet which is better.

3116 & D23 are a hot plug heat range. If you are very high on comp and you have a good ignition system. I would recommend a step or two colder plug. A plug for LP application should be close for starters. Then read the color of the plug after a good pull .Not after you drive back to the pit. Test after a good pull on the Dyno. The back pages of the sparkplug books tell you what your looking for.Your fuel also makes a difference..030 -.035 on standard ignition system. Earl
