Hey all! Been up early this morning and got to thinking about what I have read in the past about the C175 and C169 blocks. From what I understand the blocks are the same its just the thickness of sleeve in them that determines the bore. What I don't understand is why would IH go through all the trouble of casting C175 and C169 on the blocks if the are the same? Are they really the same?I have C169 torn down on a stand that came out of a 1956 300U serial 25996 and a C175 torn down on a stand that came out of a 1958 350U serial 17933. The C175 was a tractor the highways used as everything is painted yellow. The hood had no emblems on it and the serial tag had no other writing on it other that the stamped numbers. Same thing on the serial tag on the 300U. I had to scrape the crud of the tags in order to get the serial numbers off of them. The C169 block appears to be in great shape. No visible cracks anywhere. There was bright green antifreeze still in it when I tore it apart. There was some sludge and stuff in the oil pan and all but one piston was stuck. Lifters all fell out with ease, head studs came out quite easily and the block cleaned up really well. Only problem with this engine was that the crank had a flattened rod bearing on #3 cylinder which really scored the journal. Thats the reason I went and got the C175. Hoping the crank was good. When I went to pull the C175, I thought it was another 300U (C169) as I was told by the owner but when I got to it and started taking it out I noticed the C175 on the block. I thought perfect! The C175 wasn't so nice. All 4 pistons were stuck and the oil pan was full of water as there was no valve cover on the head for goodness knows how long. I got the crank out and all was good. A little scored but not as bad as the C169 crank. I thought that maybe I should use the C175 block but when I pounded out #2 piston I noticed the sleeve had a break in it and could see that the bore wall was broke as well. So what I'm tryin gto do now is build one engine out of two. I have the rebuild kit waiting to go in the C169 block. Just wanting to know if these blocks are the same or not. Sorry about telling you all how to make a clock when all you asked was the time. LOL! Cheers! Sid
