1256 Need more !!!

I have been searching posts on the site and haven't really found what i'm looking for. Have a 1256 that I have been running farm stock. I am running stock lines, injectors and the pump is set up at 190 hp. that is all local shop would set it at. Is there more to get out of this pump and if so any recommendations on where to send it? Would like to get 250-300hp out of stock pump. Maybe this is impossible. I know I could go the 450 route but thought maybe I could have fun another year without it!! Thanks, Ia 1256

the 407 is limited to around 220 with the stock pump with bigger lines and injectors.
Hyper-Max will not help on a 407 except if you want a top dollar fuel system.
midwest diesel ft dodge IA is about as good as anyone for the old 407s and fuel system work.

You will need to provide the framework of rules under which the tractor is to compete.

1. What pumps are allowed?
2. What turbos are allowed?
3. Must you remain stock appearing?
4. Are you allowed water injection?
5. RPM rules?
6. Are rules enforced?
7 What cylinder head / block modifications are you willing to do?
8. Have you thought about a new cam grind?

Larger injectors (read as "lasered) would probably allow you slightly more fuel (assuming that your pump is currently maxed out)due to the lower pressure drop. To compliment these larger injectors you will need "big" lines. Any competent pump shop could size these nozzles and lines for you.

A camshaft with increased lift and "tweaked" durations would also gain you power by optimizing the exhaust valve opening/closer thus increasing cylinder pressures in the "target" RPM range and would provide for increased volumetric efficiency that burns more fuel (assuming that you have some unburnt fuel currently going out the stack).

These are the kinds of things that we will need to know before anyone can further answer your question (intelligently)...

The solution is simple. Jack up the fuel cap. Pull junk 1256 out from under fuel cap. Drive John Deere 4520 under fuel cap. Use John Deere fuel cap and discard junk binder cap. There, now you have a winning and much better looking pulling tractor.

when the throttle drops the BS stops.

and when was the last time a JD sat on the top of the SS diesel class?
oh that's right they did it back in the 70s.
yup,they sure make a pile of power don't they.
stir the pot all you want,i have been on the inside of enough engines to tell you that JD has a weak bottom end and thus the reason for the lack of SSD champs.
but you should be proud of the fact that JD can rule a class that had a cubic inch limit that is so far out of this world that it is not even funny.
and they need a 4wd engine to do it,so your pride now smartass.

if you call hyper max and tell them you have a stock 1256 they will all but laugh. i dont think you will get those numbers with a stock pump. we had a stock 450 .093 lines and good tips with only a little tuning we had 325

Thanks for the info guys. I figured I was not gonna get too much more out of the girl with the current set-up. I thought I would ask those who Know more than I. As far as the rules or lack of it depends where the pull is but most limit rpm"s to 3000, no pressed wheels and I took it as running stock pump but as each yr comes and goes u see more and more 13mm pumps showing up.I know I am well short of them but want to be a bit closer. I guess I"ll get a bit more serious about a 450 pump and and so on! Still have beans to plant when it dries out so that is top priority. Thanks again

so yours is that JD that is only legal to pull LSS at NFMS?more cubes than the rest have,over head cams and you are proud of that?
hell,even the JD guys that i talk to don't think he should be there,if that deere is so bad why didn't he jump into the ULSS class that are running the same cubes and head that he is running?

their is about the same number of guys running a TA as their is running quad range in the pulling world.
take a look at a pulling tractor some time,not all of them just unhook from the 4020 spreader and head to town with them.
