Alright fellas

I just stroked my G. Its a 1938 G... 9 1/2 stroke, and 7.5 Jerry's block.

My budget is blown. What can I expect if I run my old head which is worked over to the max? Also, what cams have worked for people, and what carb mods have worked for people. Also, what are guys doing with ignitions, and adjustments made to clutches for this new horse power.

Help me out.

Talk to some of the Deere pullers out there. There are some guys who can rework a factory Deere head and it'll work better than one of Jerry's recast ones. They usually flow them, the manifold, and the carb and get everything matched up. I guess what I'm saying is don't just take your head to a machine shop and tell them to port and polish it to the max and put big valves in it. Get someone who really knows what they're doing and it'll be a BIG h.p. difference.

The guy that built it for me is a machinest by trade. He has did all the work on it, and that has saved me a ton. He has been able to make parts better and better. Im sure he'll do a fine job my the head I have now.

Not sure which head he was thinking... but many have liked the later head over the earlier flat heads... With the right work.... you've got some cubes to fill... Nothing special on the ignition.. MSD, mag pickup.. There are a few distributorless igitions out running.. but I haven't seen any on a Deere... yet.... (also some rules require a Dist or Mag.) On the cam.. just have one ground for your engine.. not one off the shelf... Carb.. I've been happy with mine from Roberts... Good Luck
