I put a lp head on my 450 and now it has spark knock. Is there anything I can do besides burn better gas?

That's what y'all get when listening to some of the 'educated' comments from the woodwork - The LP head will, in many cases, create detonation problems that are cured with the use of slower-burning fuels. Personally, I'd first try avgas, as it is much cheaper than race fuel & usually the 100 lo-lead will solve your problems. If you retard the timing, as suggested, you are giving up a majority of what you've tried to gain by going with that head. Did you blend the chambers? Sometimes that helps, especially if there are rough spots in the casting.

Adjust the timing. You can run higher octane fuel if you want, but you should be able to get rid of the predetonation knock by just adjusting the timing.

Would you not be defeating the purpose of the lp head by backing off the timing. You would loose hp if you back off the timing Better to try the better gas may even gain a little hp with that if you are running that much compression. Just my thoughts
