I have an H with the standard 8043 I believe I always get the H and M mixed up or is it the 8060 oh well its an H head and I have pistons that measure 2 and 5/16" from the top of the wrist pin to the top of the dome standard head gasket. How far can I safley have the machinest shave off. And still run on the farm. You also have to take into consideration that it may have been done before. Where would you measure from? THANKS JON

Measure around the triangle water ports, try to keep the head plate thickness no thinner than .300 thick. anything beyond that can be safely removed. Usually, if nothing has been done before, you cant take .100 off em with no trouble long as the head is not cracked. Hope this helps. Did you get scuba equipment off the H yet? I read that the other day,,, they are IH tough, it can take it!! ChadS

Yes the old H is running again smokes a little more all of a sudden but she got a lot of sand and sediment all over her so I am sure some got in the motor. What do you have for a dist? Besides springs do you oblong the plate where the advance weights go or what I would like something let me know if you have a kit or something . I got the SM carb for this new H motor I am working on coming. Hope that works out.Went to the 169 Cam also. If I can get her together maybe she will be a silent killer. lol

Id fill that H engine up with kerosine and with the plugs out turn it over and let it circulate it through trhe oil passages, dump some down the exhaust manifold and pull out the plugs and tunr the engine over a few times till it all shoots out the plug holes. Mite help git all the crap out it that maybe hiding. Just a good H distributor, you dont have to put advance springs in it, just make sure the advance system is working properly. Most of em are junk from wear, or sitting. Id go with a Petronix Ignitor conversion kit, that gets rid of your points, and makes it solid state ign. Makes more spark than points. Mite not be as much as a good mag though,, but enough to know ya got bit by it. Usually pickin myself off the floor when I realize,, LOL helps start alot easier, and is in 6 or 12 volt systems. Yeah, it sounds like it may be a sleeper,, just make sure you can put it to the ground. ChadS

I cant use electronic in the class I want to run But I have a dist with a 40L plate I have not seen anything larger than a 35deg I wonder if it came with the fire crator set thats in the H it came from. Ive seen 15deg I think 22or 24 cant remember and a 35 but not a 40deg . Any ideas
. Yes I did all that to the H before I tryed to start her I have about 20 mins of run time on her since the dunking I am hoping all the smoke is extra oil that still needs to get out of the cyls. I used a mix of kero, tranny fluid and 30wt. P.S. I can take mags apart in my sleep but I have not figured out the lag angles and timing to try to put one to work on the puller yet. JON

Id like to try out a mag someday,, so I can get rid of my battery. Ive got 3 mags sitting on the shelf collecting dust on the bags they are in. Yeah, that H will smoke till its all burned out,,, just glad you got it out, and you were not harmed!! On about all the H distributors Ive torn apart, they have all had the 40L numbers on the plate. I think the M's are 22L or something like that. I belive they changed the amount of degrees of timing, due to the rpm differences in the H and the M. But, the M's got shafted in my opinion,,, they can take that extra timing that the H distributors give and help out lugging HP. Chad
