Remember several years ago in Hook Magazine, someone had an article about a G John Deere running on Alcohol. Does anyone know who or where this tractor might have been. Never have heard any more about it. I know they had some problems
with keeping it together at first. Any information
would be appreciated. Thanks.

I have that issue, was from Illinois, Article said they cracked blocks, but pulled the sled 18mph. Id have to dig for the issue, but I remember that one. Ive got every issue since the first hook! dunno why,,, just a good reading material i guess. LOL! They said, the G does not run a radiator, just threw Ice on the block to cool it off, it could run cooler than what normal is, bt not that cool. Alky can drop engine temps 20-50 degrees if done right. Chad

It has been a few years ago that I watched this tractor run in Eastern Iowa. Just as stated steel flywheel, motorcycle carburetor, stock crank, no governor, alcohol, lots of rpm and 4th gear (high) in an unstyled "G" pulling in the 4500# class. It did win the class that day over all the four and six cylinder also screaming all the rpm they could stand.

They are still holding there own. New cut rubber on the boys tractor and his old tires on mine. Really screwed up our program as new tires are making us relearn some old things. Tires are allot different from the old tires but we are gaining on them as last pull we did better with the new tires. Pulling the turbo diesel tractors now and the poppers get left at home allot more often than they used to. Hoping to get back out east maybe this winter again with the two cylinders. Find us a pull in your neighborhood this winter and I will come see ya. Take Care, DW

Dad and I are building a duplex carb for our 730 to run on alky for deadweight. Were not after HP, we are after the smooth torque curve alky gives an engine. Chad

Does anyone know how big this G tractor was? Cubic inches? Do they pull this tractor anymore or is it retired?

Hey Thumper do you boys need any help coming up with a "practical" use for that homemade alcohol? I came up with a pretty good list myself and burning it in an old John Deere didn't even make the top 5...

Hey Thumper, I wish I had a G that would pull 10,200 lbs in 2nd gear. I was just curious to know if this tractor was still around anymore. Was it legal to pull anywhere. Thumper you should just stick to driving and leave the engine building/master minding to me, LOL.
