Has anyone stripped the inside out of their oil bath air cleaner and put a dry filter in it. If so what filter did you use and were any other modifications requried. I would like to do this to my John Deere A and have it remain stock appearing.

phil..the way i did one on an unstyled a was to take the mesh out and remove the metal in the lower part that extends into the oil bath so the dry cleaner doesn't hit it..seperate the top cast from the center and build a plate to go in between..same od and cut a hole in the inside to fit the dry cleaner..fit them together and mark holes and drill to allow the bolts to go through so you can bolt them together.. drill 3/8 hole in the top cast and cut 3/8 allthread long enough for the filter..eiher tap the cast for allthread or put lock nuts top and bottom..apply sealant both sides of plate and bolt together..use 3/8 lock nut to hold filter on..use donaldson P181050 filter..lynn

GOOD ORIGINAL OILBATH (NOT PLUGGED-UP) WON'T RESTRICT AIR ENOUGH TO HURT HP @ 10% OVER RPMS.
HOWEVER, IF YOU STILL WANT TO DO IT, K&N FILTER FOR POLARIS 500 ATV WILL FIT INSIDE. MOUNT IT ON THE PIPE INSIDE CANISTER. AIR FLOWS INSIDE-OUT INSTEAD OF OUTSIDE-IN BUT STILL WORKS. MUST MAKE ADAPTER TO FIT PIPE AND PLUG FOR END OF FILTER.
