Conversion of oil bath to paper

I have read posts time to time regarding converting the Oil bath air cleaner to a paper filament style by removing the wire mesh. Renaissance Tractor in Chehalis, WA offers this conversion. Some places are changing their rules to make it a requirement that the factory intake system be used. Not that it will make a huge difference, I also figure I can draw some cooler air from above the tractor as compaired to under the hood.

Has anyone done this conversion?

I HAVE CONVERTED SEVERAL IN THE WAY YOU MENTIONED.
THE INNER FILTERS FROM THE 40 SERIES JD'S WORK PRETTY GOOD FOR THE JOB. MOST OF THE OIL BATHS HAVE A FLAT SURFACE TO SEAT AGAINST ON THE TOP, THEN I JUST WELD REDDY-ROD TO THE TOP FOR THE BOLT. I HAVE FOUND THAT YOU CANT HAVE THE FILTER TOO CLOSE TO THE CAN , IT WONT ALLOW THE AIR TO FLOW PROPERLY THROUGH THE FILTER. IT'S A VERY NEAT CONVERSION, AND NO MORE OIL!!!!!

All we do it totally remove the oil can and the plumbing from the oil bath set up. We then run a curved pipe straight from the carborator through the hood with the filter on the end of it. We have been running that set up for awhile, and it works very well. Fresh cool air is always good.
