I need some advice. I have built a engine 7 by 4 7/8s with a 12 inch long rod. I have 250lbs of compression or more. The problem i have is it dont pull worth a darn. It hammers hard under a pull i have 112 octane fuel in it. I have had several guys tell me that is excess. I have others tell me thats just right. I had a cam done now the guy tells me it needs to be advanced because of the long rod and stroke. Then one cam guy tells me i need a whole diffrent grind to loose some of the comppresion. I have a diff cyl head i could put on it but it will drop me down to maybe 8.3 to 1 on compression. Any advice would be appreciated.

Uh, what kind of engine is it? If it hammers you've either got something hitting, too much compression, a nice hotspot in the chamber, too much advance in timing or not enough octane.

Number one thing here, do you run out of power? if so then I would look into changing something on the engine. If not then I would work on balance, tires, hitch, etc. As long as your not bogging it out complelty you don't have engine probs unless you are making too much power ,then just throttle back some.

As far as engine power i dont think it makes 10 hp more than the old 6 by 4 3/4. So something is wrong. Just looking for advice engine is a case.

If it's hammering, its going to be a BasketCASE. Timing, RPM, Compression and Octane
