OK 'G' experts- I know you probably have answered this before but I'll ask any way. Say I want to add some power to my '48 totally stock G .First off if I had a dyno I would probably know this-What's a stock G put out for HP on gas?(books only list HP for kerosene). How much gain from 1) Gas manifold 2) Alum. pistons 3) Pulling Cam - I'm thinking these things first then go from there. I really don't want an all out puller just some things to bring it to life... any ideas appreciated!

I have a friend with a 51' G, .125 Hinrich pistons, cold gas manifold,Cam, had Roberts Carb make his carb a super 51,3in. exhaust system from the manifold to the pipe, dry air filter and some mild head porting. He's getting around 65 HP and pulls a 4-16 plow in the fall. If you want to do the cam I'd call Arnold motor supply in spencer IA. #712-262-6430, did my buddies cam and my 51' A cam, do nice work and I think the bill was around $125, just tell them CU/IN. and desired horse.

I have a 52 G that I traded for and the head gasket was leaking. So,I took the head off and it had.90 over cast all fuel pistons in it.I had the head shaved.150 thousanths till it got into the eyebrows on the head a little.I installed a Johnson gas manifold and an electronic ignition(Pertronix Igniter),and left the all fuel pistons in it.It pulled 44 plus on the dyno and that was without tweaking.I am going to play with it again soon on the dyno when it warms up.New pistons and a bore job are coming but not right now.It will pull the front wheels with 800lbs added to it with 16.9 38's on 15 inch wide wheels. On most tracks it will spin the fire out of the 16.9's in 6200lb,6500,and 7000lb class(first gear of course).I have had a lot of fun with mine so far and hope you will to.Good luck,Jack(TN).

Without getting into big bucks, use M&W or Clevite pistons, cold LP style manifold available at Detwiler tractor, shave head .250, port polish. As far as a cam, I'm not a fan of reground cams unless you have a Big cube motor. The late model cams have the same grind as a 70, and are good cams. It will be more than sufficient for an engine such as this. With this combo, you will be all over the 60 h.p. mark. I ran this style engine for 5 yrs. with 16.9 x 38 cut tires on 16" rims. In low gear antique classes I was very competitive with the strokers. If the class is low gear, 60 h.p. in a 6000 or 6500 lb. class is plenty. I retired this tractor and put the 13.6 x 38 tires back on it. I sometimes pull it in classes compatible to Div II NATPA.

Drawbar 34.5 PTO 38.1

1 Gas manifold..not really sure exact numbers probably not much of a change by itself.
2 Pistons..depending on the style and size 4-10hp gained. 3. Dengler advertised as much as 7-9hp on a stock stroke and as much as 16-17hp on some strokers (his numbers)

Cheap hp gains can be found in compression and a good flowing head/intake system.

Thanks for the input. Apparently there is no HP gain putting gas in a G made to burn Kerosene? What type of pistons do you recommend?

Really you are looking at either Clevite or M&W style. Bob at Triple G service is a M&W dealer and Hinrich deals with Clevite. I personally prefer the M&W style.
Hope this helps.
