Is the 301 motor considered to be a factor replacement block for the 460?Is the 301 an OEM replacement part?Next question is it legal in stock classes?

It sort of goes like this. Not all rules are on paper, and the ones that are on paper don't always mean what they say: at least not for all those involved. It will probably depend on several definitions. How the rules committee, track officials, and you define LEGAL, FACTORY REPLACEMENT, and STOCK has a lot to do with it. If STOCK means the tractor just has to look like a 460, it's probably LEGAL. If LEGAL just means you can pull it and no one says anything about it, then the officials probably consider it a FACTORY REPLACEMENT. Find out who the rules committee members are. Then go check out the tractors that they and their closest friends pull. You can probably get an idea of how the "RULES" are being interpreted and find out their definitions of the three aforementioned terms.

I have one just pulled it for the first time last Sunday I kept the rpm down in the stock class and in low gear ta forward with 16.9x38 tires in 6000 #.Then jumped up to the open class 6500# used 2nd ta ahead full rpm .Won both classes.Carb and manifold is about the only visual difference and the 301 stamp on the right side up by the water pump.

How many rpm did you turn it in the open classes? I am running a wanna be 460, just a liteweight, and going to run it on the track very soon, its ust a straight 5 speed, no TA, as the engine is in an H rear end, with 15.5 cuts. Ever have your 460 on the dyno? ChadS
