I know a fellow who is having his GM John Deere modified to pull at his local dealership.
He has ben told that his machine will generate 160 Hp after they are through with it.
Is 160 Hp realistic for a modified G ?
Roughly what c.i.d. is needed to attain this horsepower?
This is the first stroker that the dealership has attemped to put together and I am concerned that they may be blue skying about the power of the engine after modification. Thanks

WE PULLED G'S FOR A LONG TIME TRIED EVERYTHING-
TURBOS I EVEN WENT DUAL OVERHEAD CAM WITH HOMEMADE CRANK, 360 DEGREE FIRING ORDER, D9 CAT PISTONS, I WOULD CHICKEN OUT AT 3500 RPM WITH THROTTLE LEFT OVER. CALCULATED HP WAS 220 BUT WAS NOT ENOUGH FOR 6250 SUPER FARM.

Just wondered if the guy was talking to a salesman or a mechanic? Not bad for a group of individuals that haven't ever put together a stroker. Have been an avid Deere puller for over 15 years and will guarantee that even with 800+ cubic inches it willn't be enough. Although you will have a nice running John Deere, you still willn't be able to run with a 500+ cubic inch Oliver or 700+ cubic inch Moline. If the dealer still believes that this is possible, tell them that I live in Illinois and they can use my M&W Dyno anytime they want.

A two valve spark ignition engine making 1 HP per cubic inch at 6000rpm is nothing special. If breathing could be achieved, then a 900 inch engine at 2000rpm "could" make 300HP.

Well with a 7 1/2" bore (kansas block) and a long stroke (9.5"+) you can push the 900 cube limit. I witness a similarly equipped G pull at the NY Expo last summer pull 4th gear in 6500# without any trouble at all. Don't think you need 160 hp to do that type of pulling though?

Maybe they have a can of super gas with a leak and they are inhaling the fumes while making hp calculations.

Hello Fred haven't talked to you in awhile, yeah I got it straightened out,put in a new battery an went over all my electrical connections, and installed a master disconect switch, and a new Nippendenso starter. The ISKA done a good job starting the tractor, but my solinoid stuck and burned up soilnoid on starter(ISKA) and I couldn't locate a new starter solinoid for it,cost me 500 bucks for the Nip. Fred I thinking about completly removing govenor weights,I'm running "B" weights now,but I still don't get the performance I had when installed the govenor wrong,I grant you I was on needles and pins controling it boy when I got it hooked to the sled she would flat get on down the track with a nice blue blaze out the stack, when I corrected the govonor misque I lost the nice blue flame????? later Gman

120hp is achievable, 140 can be had w/ deep pockets; 160hp? they know some secrets they have not told anyone else. I've heard rumors of G's over 800 cubes, basically a home made engine residng in a G tractor

If it was possible, and I highly doubt it is, #1- it won't last long. #2- sombody must have a really good insurance policy, so when somebody gets hurt, there will be a large sum of money to pay.#3- I love two cylinder strokers and have an A of my own. They are fun and all, but if you want that kind of hp, put the money into an oliver 88 and enjoy it instead of potentially destroying a tractor,or worse someone else who enjoys the sport. I've seen many really good running two cylinders , and I've helped work on a couple but they do have limits. Did you all see the one that blew apart?

It is possible to get those number from a two cylinder, but it takes talking moving the cam for the stroke, custom blocks, and crank/rods are billet. There is a G coming together in the mid west that will push that number and a 70 up north that will also.

Yeah, you have to watch out for the guys who push the limit. I heard of this one guy who had over 300psi for compression in his A. Blew the radiator cap 75 feet in the air along with 10 gallons of water. I think you might know the guy. HEHEHE

Just funnin

You forgot to mention how wet my shirt got, it was a quick shower though. I haven't got the 60 back yet, but he says soon, as he has talked of it hogging up his garage. Yes the cd is working very well. thanks again, I didn't see you at duanes's mtg a few days ago. The crew should be back from colombus tonite. Anyway, I guess you could, and I do hear of guys relocating things, but it really has to be a time bomb. If it was that dependable, everybody would be doing it. But the old saying goes, theres nothing too wrong money can't fix. Good luck to all those who try it.
