Who can do a good regrind for a good price? I've been priced $100 and $350 for the same job. Cornett's in Somerset, KY priced the $100 and Reed Cams priced the $350. Anyone had any experience with either of these places when dealing with cams?

Try Berry's cam. Cost around $135. Had one done last year and was really pleased. Plus I didn't have to sell the house to pay for it.

GMan -

Since when do looks win a pull?

If the camshaft just came back from the grinder, it SHOULD LOOK GOOD! If it did not, then you should be worried. A cam is a cam is a cam, until you put it into the tractor and measure (dyno) or feel (seat of your pants) a significant difference.

Otherwise, you have been ripped off.

Gman & the rest of us understand that without having to be told. The positive remarks refered to the lack of burrs, dents, rough marks, documentation & preparation/packing prior to shipping plus general cleanliness.

G. Taylor-

You may understand that, but I have talked to PLENTY of people that place great importance on the "look" of a cam lobe. Referring to the pointiness of the lobe or the diameter of the base circle. The intent of my post was to inform those who do not understand as much about cams as you (et al) that the appearance of a cam means very little about the performance of said cam.

I have always enjoyed your technically oriented and insightful posts in the past, but in this instance you need to check your arrogance at the door.

Whoever -

If you would please re-read the above posts, you will find that it was "Mr. Taylor" who first took the low road with his "...we don't need to be told that." attitude.

I simply pointed out that that there are others who are not as "wise" as him concerning engines, and that these people (obviously not him) need the information that I provided.

If you and "Mr. Taylor" cannot handle the fact that there others on this board attempting to provide clarification to issues through the use of informative replies (me), then maybe all of you should "check your arrogance at the door".

Is that being a "smart mouth"? If you believe so, then I can take you to a whole other world of "smart mouth".

Anyway, by calling me a "smart mouth" aren't you totally avoiding any meaningful dialogue about camshafts and how their looks "indicate" performance? That makes YOU the "smart mouth".

Ta ta,

"Apparent smart mouth constipated a$$hole"

Let's remember who took the cheap shot at G-Puller in the 1st place. Rather than condemning him, why didn't you ask politely how much torque & HP the cam grinder thought it was worth and for a future posting with dyno results. I do appreciate you literary skills are vastly superior & re-freshing compared to the typical negative post. Now lets apply your education to positve tasks, along with posting your name & address. By the way, what were the cam card specs?

G. Taylor -

I have re-read my post and do not view it as a "cheap shot". Could you please post the part of my message that was a cheap shot to G puller (not Gman, sorry!) If anything, it may have been not so nice to Cornett machine. In addition, I think G puller emerged from the whole ordeal, not only unscathed, but also better informed! I did not mean to infringe upon the intellect of you or G-Man with a post of such gruff and perhaps obvious(?) nature.

In fact, I now believe that I am truly sorry. I am sorry to have engaged in a conversation that, without a doubt, you would have eventually exalted with your typical thoughtful technically-oriented wisdom. I should be more careful next time and allow fellow pullers to go on believing: if a cam "looks good", it will surely kick a$$ on the track.

Truly Regretful

If you will re-re-read your original post you will see that you were a little harsh on G-PULLER (Not Gman) when he said he got a good looking cam from Cornett's. You did not have to make your point - which I agree with BTW - by jumping down someone's throat. Maybe you are so accustomed to being a pr*** that you don't realize it when it rolls off your fingertips. And since you are throwing that big "Whoever-" out there, I don't recall seing your name on here unless it happens to be Good One!!! or Thanks, but no thanks...

Now...can we end the peeing contest and talk tractors? Concerning Cornett's, they have a very good reputation as a quality machine shop around central KY. Maybe someone from the Central KY Steam & Gas club in Paris, or the other club in South Central KY can put you in contact with someone who can give you a more personal reference.

Guys, can't we all just get along here? I'm being serious, we're all old tractor lovers and all seem to be JD lovers too. Let's just let this go and get on with more important things. I hate to see this sort of thing happen to our hobby. Just my 2 cents.
